Dan Fellman, the head of distribution at Warner Bros., a unit of Time Warner (TWX), declined to comment on the latest numbers out of respect for victims of the July 20 shooting in Aurora, Colo., the Associated Press reported. The shooting at a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises killed 12 people and injured 58.

Despite coming in first, the film's gross was down 60% from the previous weekend. The London Olympics may have kept some potential moviegoers at home in front of their TVs.

The No. 2 movie this weekend was 20th Century Fox's Ice Age: Continental Drift, which brought in an estimated $13.3 million, according to BoxOffice.com. The distributor is a unit of News Corp. (NWS).

The fourth installment in the animated Ice Age series has grossed a total $114.8 million in its three weeks in theaters.

Coming in a close third domestically was 20th Century Fox's comedy The Watch with $13.0 million, according to BoxOffice.com.
