Ernie Els Relies On Odyssey Putter In Open Championship Victory

CARLSBAD, Calif., July 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Odyssey®, the #1 Putter in Golf®, announced today that Staff Professional Ernie Els used an Odyssey White Hot XG #1 belly putter during his dramatic Open Championship victory at Royal Lytham & St. Annes in Lancashire, England on Sunday.

The win marked the fourth major championship victory of Els' professional career and, remarkably, the 15 th victory for Odyssey putters on the European Tour this season. (The nearest competing putter brand has just three tournament wins on that tour.) Odyssey putters have now been in the hands of nine out of the last 12 European Tour event winners. Additionally, the #1 Putter in Golf has claimed 13 worldwide wins over the last nine weeks, and 25 overall wins this season.

At Royal Lytham & St. Annes, Odyssey putters were used by 34 percent of the elite field, including seven golfers who finished in the top 10 on the leaderboard.

"With Ernie's major championship win, Odyssey's incredible hot streak continues," said Chris Koske, Global Business Director for Odyssey Golf. "Odyssey putters just keep winning, proving that when it matters most, the world's best players rely on Odyssey."

Els' steady use of his 44.5" Odyssey White Hot XG #1 putter was both crucial and clutch down the stretch. In fact, "The Big Easy" birdied four of the tournament's final nine holes to card a 32 on the back nine, draining a pivotal 15-foot birdie putt on the 18th to finish at 7-under par and claim the coveted Claret Jug.
