Assessing 10 Dow Stocks That Report Earnings This Week

Stock quotes in this article: JNJ, INTC, KO, AXP, GE

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- The second-quarter earnings season for stocks in the Dow Jones Industrial Average begins its second week.

I will profile three Dow stocks in the Computer and Technology sector, one in the Medical sector, three in the Finance sector, one in the Consumer Staples sector, one in the Utilities sector and one in the Multisector Conglomerates sector. (See the table below.)

Sector valuations and performance measures vary among these sectors as shown on www.ValuEngine.com.

The Computer and Technology sector is 4.1% undervalued with a gain of 4.3% year to date but a decline of 14.6% over the past 12 months.

The Medical sector is 9.0% overvalued with a gain of 16.4% year to date but a decline of 10.6% over the past 12 months.

The Finance sector is 4.9% overvalued with a gain of 16.1% year to date but a decline of 0.8% over the past 12 months.

The Consumer Staples sector is 11.5% overvalued with a gain of 10.3% year to date but a decline of 6.3% over the past 12 months.

The Utilities sector is 11.9% overvalued with a gain of just 0.9% year to date but a decline of 5.0% over the past 12 months.

The Multisector Conglomerates sector is 1.6% undervalued with a gain of 8.5% year to date but a decline of 9.1% over the past 12 months.

How to Read the Table:

OV/UN Valued: A number in red reflects the percent undervalued. Numbers in black reflect the percent overvalued, according to ValuEngine.

VE Rating:A 3-Engine rating is a Hold, a 4-Engine rating is a Buy, and a 5-Engine rating is a Strong Buy.

Last 12-Month Return (%): Stocks with a red number declined by that percentage. Those with a black number increased by that percentage.

Forecast One-Year Return: All numbers are black, so all ten Dow stocks in the table are projected to move sideways to higher over the next 12 months by the percentages shown.

P/E Ratios: These stocks have forward price-to-earnings ratios between 8.6 and 19.8.
