The New York Times is reporting that Apple will release a smaller version of its popular iPad tablet, dubbed the iPad Mini. Rumors of the device have continued to pick up steam over the past several weeks, as Apple seeks to keep up its dominant place in the tablet market. Other entrants such as Google (GOOG - Get Report) are increasingly launching smaller tablets, trying to nip Apple in the bud.
