Traxxas Selects Cypress’s WirelessUSB-LP™ Radio Solution For World’s Fastest Ready-To-Run Radio Controlled Car

Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ: CY) today announced that Traxxas, one of the leading providers of ready-to-run (RTR) radio controlled hobby vehicles, has selected Cypress’s WirelessUSB-LP™ 2.4-GHz radio-on-a chip for their new XO-1 radio controlled supercar.

The XO-1 RTR car is capable of going from 0 to 100 MPH in just 4.9 seconds. It won the 2012 Readers’ Choice Award for the Best Electric On-Road Car and the Best Innovation from RC Car Action Magazine. It employs the TQi, a 2.4-GHz high-output radio system with a two-channel transmitter, a five-channel receiver and an internal antenna. Cypress's WirelessUSB-LP offers an unparalleled feature set to enable superior wireless performance. It provides an integrated power amplifier (high transmit power of up to +4dBm) and support for external power amplifiers for a strong signal at long distances. It uses Cypress's Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) technology and RSSI-based channel selection to offer superior co-location abilities and best-in-class interference immunity for noisy environments. WirelessUSB-LP has an SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface) burst mode, dynamic data rate and auto transaction sequencer that enable a high frame rate and low latency. In addition, it supports printed trace wiggle antennas, allowing the TQi transmitter’s sleek, modern design to be undisturbed by a protruding antenna.
