Galectin Therapeutics (NASDAQ: GALT), the leading developer of therapeutics that target galectin proteins to treat fibrosis and cancer, today announced that it has been added to the Russell Microcap Index effective at the close of equity markets on June 22, 2012.
Annual reconstitution of Russell Indexes captures the largest U.S. stocks as of the end of May, ranking them by total market capitalization to create the Russell 3000
Index and Russell Microcap Index. Russell indexes are widely used by investment managers and institutional investors for index funds and as benchmarks for both passive and active investment strategies.
“Addition to the Russell Microcap Index provides greater visibility for Galectin Therapeutics and its programs in fibrosis and cancer, which could ultimately result in increased liquidity and a broader shareholder base for the Company,” said Peter G. Traber, MD, President, CEO and CMO of Galectin Therapeutics.
