Dell Inc (DELL): Today's Featured Technology Winner

Dell (DELL) pushed the Technology sector higher today making it today's featured technology winner. The sector as a whole closed the day up 1%. By the end of trading, Dell rose 40 cents (3.4%) to $12.33 on average volume. Throughout the day, 23.3 million shares of Dell exchanged hands as compared to its average daily volume of 19.6 million shares. The stock ranged in a price between $11.95-$12.36 after having opened the day at $11.96 as compared to the previous trading day's close of $11.92. Other companies within the Technology sector that increased today were: Entropic Communications (ENTR), up 28.4%, LiveDeal (LIVE), up 17.9%, Kewaunee Scientific (KEQU), up 14.7%, and Loral Space & Communications (LORL), up 13.4%.

Dell Inc. provides integrated technology solutions in the information technology (IT) industry worldwide. Dell has a market cap of $20.89 billion and is part of the computer hardware industry. The company has a P/E ratio of 6.8, equal to the average computer hardware industry P/E ratio and below the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7. Shares are down 18.5% year to date as of the close of trading on Tuesday. Currently there are 10 analysts that rate Dell a buy, no analysts rate it a sell, and 13 rate it a hold.

The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its attractive valuation levels and largely solid financial position with reasonable debt levels by most measures. However, as a counter to these strengths, we also find weaknesses including deteriorating net income, poor profit margins and weak operating cash flow.
