Ventyx, an ABB company, today announced that Oklahoma Gas & Electric (OG&E),
Oklahoma's largest electric utility, has been recognized by Greentech Media as having one of the
Top Ten Utility Smart Grid Deployments in North America. According to Greentech Media, the recognition comes at a time of unprecedented smart grid project ramp-up and deployment in
OG&E is currently in the process of implementing volt/VAR (VVO) optimization – a new way of controlling voltage – across 400 circuits in order to achieve a 75-megawatt load reduction within the next eight years. The advanced model-based VVO capabilities provided by Ventyx Network Manager™ DMS (distribution management system) allow distribution organizations such as OG&E to maximize the performance and reliability of their distribution systems while significantly reducing peak demand, minimizing power losses and lowering overall operating costs. This week, OG&E reached a milestone with the successful deployment of VVO in its production environment, with SCADA-enabled two-way communications between its operations center and field devices.
"We're honored to be recognized by Greentech Media as having one of the nation's top smart grid deployments," said
Scott Milanowski, director utility transformation, Oklahoma Gas & Electric. "Our adoption of cutting-edge technologies will continue to underpin our ability to improve the efficiency and dependability of our service, reduce demand and environmental impact, and ultimately drive greater value for our customers."
"Today's emphasis on implementing energy-efficiency programs and limiting peak demand growth has driven renewed interest among transmission companies in implementing advanced volt/VAR control capabilities on their distribution systems. OG&E is one of these organizations at the forefront of implementing model-based volt/VAR optimization to improve the efficiency of its distribution network," said
Oscar Tillberg, vice president of network control solutions, Ventyx. "We congratulate OG&E on its well-deserved recognition by one of the leading media and research firms covering this emerging market."
