Corporation (NASDAQ: KOPN), the leader in microdisplays for consumer and military applications, will showcase its ultra-low-power, super-high-brightness display module with WQVGA (428 x 240) resolution at the SID (Society for Information Display) 2012 Exhibition. The event takes place June 5 – 7 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center in Boston, Massachusetts. The WQVGA display module (0.2”-diagonal WQVGA LVS display and efficient backlight) will be shown at Kopin’s booth (#177).
“For the emerging information snacking market, we offer an integrated solution consisting of the WQVGA display module and A230 display driver ASIC with built-in frame buffer,” said Kopin President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. John C.C. Fan. “The display, backlight and ASIC have been specially designed to meet the needs for this application after consulting with customers’ requests: a small transmissive WQVGA display for compact optics, brightness up to 2000 nits for sunlight readability and low power consumption for full-day operation. Select customers are designing in the WQVGA imaging solution and we plan to mass produce the products in the fall 2012.”
The integrated imaging solution consumes less than 150 mW at 1000 nits in full video mode and about 100 mW in binary color mode. A major breakthrough in the ASIC design reduces the power consumption by more than half compared to the earlier product. In static video mode, the A230’s integrated frame buffer additionally saves substantial system power.
