The clean energy system owned and operated by American DG Energy is a highly efficient 100 kW CHP system tied into Club Fit's existing boiler system and will produce energy in the form of electricity, space heat and domestic hot water for the pool and spa. With American DG Energy's On-Site Utility, Club Fit only pays for the energy used by the facility and avoids all capital, installation, operating and maintenance costs of the energy system. In addition, the energy produced is priced lower than the local utility providing immediate cost savings to Club Fit.
CHP systems are a cleaner energy option, offering considerable environmental benefits when compared with purchased electricity from the grid. By capturing and utilizing heat that would otherwise be wasted from the production of electricity, CHP systems require less fuel while producing the same amount of energy. Using the EPA CHP Partnership emissions calculator, Club Fit's utilization of a CHP system will reduce their carbon emissions by approximately 367 tons per year, or the equivalent of planting 71 acres of forest annually.
Club Fit is a comprehensive health and fitness facility with programs designed to enhance the quality of life and physical well being for community members. Now they are also contributing to the well being of the environment with the reduction in carbon emissions.
