Holland, a 10 year Netflix veteran, will be responsible for acquiring and launching original series for the over 25 million Netflix global members, while Ropell, who joined Netflix last year, will assume Holland's former responsibilities for managing TV licensing relationships in the company's largest market. "Cindy has worked closely on every aspect of our original series launches. Given how important originals are to our future success, we are thrilled to have her in this position," said Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos. "We are also delighted to give Jason an important role in our biggest market. As head of our Latin American and Canadian acquisition teams over the last year, he's skillfully managed the growth of those businesses." As streaming use has exploded, U.S. Netflix members have been watching more and more complete past seasons of high quality television series, including "Mad Men," "Breaking Bad," "24," "Lost," "Downton Abbey." Earlier this year, Netflix premiered its first original series, the Norwegian fish-out-of-water story, "Lilyhammer," staring Steven Van Zandt, and in 2013 will launch four more. Netflix Originals are being produced by some of the most highly-acclaimed and commercially-successful talent in Hollywood. They include: "House of Cards," a political thriller executive produced by David Fincher and starring Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright; "Hemlock Grove," a gothic foray into murder, mystery madness executive produced by Eli Roth and starring Famke Janssen; "Orange is the New Black," a new drama from "Weeds" creator Jenji Kohan and the long-awaited comeback of cult comedy favorite "Arrested Development." Previously, Holland oversaw domestic TV licensing for Netflix after starting her career at the company in DVD acquisition. Before Netflix, she held various business and creative development roles at e-commerce startup Kozmo.com and for film production companies including Mutual Film Company and Baltimore/ Spring Creek. Holland is a graduate of Stanford University. Before joining Netflix in March 2011, Ropell was Vice President, Business Development at NBCUniversal Inc., Executive Director, Business and Legal Affairs, for Comcast Entertainment Group, and legal counsel for Corus Entertainment. Ropell is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School and The University of Toronto - Trinity College. Both Holland and Ropell will continue to report to Sarandos and Ropell will continue to oversee content acquisition for Canada in his new role. Peter Friedlander, hired last fall to shepherd original series, will continue to report to Holland. Netflix has embarked on a search for a new leader for its Latin America content acquisition team, seeking an executive with deep knowledge of the region and extensive industry ties.
