MWV Healthcare To Present At Inaugural Pharmapack North America Conference

MeadWestvaco Corporation (NYSE: MWV), a global leader in packaging and packaging solutions, will present at Pharmapack North America’s inaugural conference at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, May 22 – 23, 2012.

The first presentation, entitled "The Demonstrated Impact of Packaging on Patient Adherence," will be led by John Grinnell, vice president and managing director, of MWV Healthcare's Secondary & Adherence Packaging Division, as part of the “Exploring the Human Interaction with Pharmaceutical Packaging” session to be held Tuesday, May 22 from 9:15am-10:40am.

Grinnell will review MWV research demonstrating packaging’s role as a scalable and cost-effective solution to improve poor medication adherence, a significant public health threat recognized by the Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of the Surgeon General. MWV’s unprecedented peer-reviewed study, A Pharmacoepidemiologic Analysis of the Impact of Calendar Blister Packaging on Adherence to Self-Administered Medications for Long-Term Use, evaluates the impact on adherence of using reminder packaging compared to traditional pill vials in a real world setting.

The second presentation, “Equivalence in Nasal Pump Systems for Generic Products in the US Market,” will be led by Rabih Karam, North American sales manager, MWV Healthcare, as part of the “Emerging Technologies in Drug Delivery” session to be held Wednesday, May 23 from 10:50am-12:40pm.

Karam will discuss how bioequivalence studies are an essential part of registration dossiers for the formulation and manufacture of generic medicines; the rigorous standards for performing bioequivalency studies; and how equivalence criteria extends to the drug delivery components used in generic medicines. As part of the discussion, Karam will reference the process and capabilities required to generate equivalence data for MWV nasal devices.
