CSX, City Year And Worcester Tree Initiative Volunteers To Plant 100 Trees In Dodge Park

What:			For the fourth year in a row, volunteers from CSX Corporation (NYSE: CSX), City Year, the Worcester Tree Initiative and Alliance for Community Trees will come together in a continuing effort to reforest urban Worcester, Massachusetts. A total of 100 trees will be planted this Saturday in Dodge Park, where thousands of mature trees have been decimated by the Asian Longhorned Beetle. 			Welcome from Congressman McGovern and ceremonial tree planting from 9:00 am – 9:30 am

Why:			This and other tree plantings are part of a much larger plan that brings together the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the state’s Department of Conservation and Recreation, the City of Worcester, Worcester Tree Initiative and other stakeholders to help the region recover from the Asian Longhorned Beetle infestation. Trees at risk include Maples, Elms, Birches, Willows, Poplars and other species that have defined the Massachusetts landscape. This and other plantings have included Fir, Beech, Dogwood, Gingko, Spruce, Larch, Locust and other species that are resistant to and do not provide a host for the beetle.
How:			“Trees for Tracks” is CSX’s commitment to plant 21,000 trees, one for every mile of track, over the next five years, in the areas most in need of green. CSX is listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for its achievements in environmental performance, including reaching ahead of schedule the company's voluntary goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by eight percent and its tree planting initiative.
