Obama Campaign Video Ignores Romney

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- It seems like Barack Obama has forgotten about Mitt Romney.

The president's campaign released a seven-minute campaign video on Monday that applauded many of Obama's first-term achievements but ignored a mention or reference to his likely Republican opponent.

"Some said America's best days were behind us, and like America [Obama] dug deep, fought back and never lost faith in our ability to meet the challenge," the video's narrator said.

The video -- titled "Forward" and 7:17 long -- opens for the first minute with an image of a red line diving from January 2008 through January 2009 as audio clips of news reporters chatter about a flagging economy and as images of former President George W. Bush, former Vice President Dick Cheney and Alan Greenspan fade in and out on the screen.

The conclusion of the video lists 28 different accomplishments Obama reached in his first term, which included the elimination of "unfair" credit card fees, Wall Street reform and tax cuts for 160 million Americans.

Romney's campaign also released a video on Monday as the presumed GOP nominee used the entire one-minute spot to slam Obama's economic record.

The contrasting videos offer a glimpse of one campaign that, in the midst of moderate economic improvements and mixed overall economic data, is attempting to remind voters of a president's successes that have been paired with an historic recession, and another that shows a contending candidate whose political hope rests greatly on disgruntled voters tired of continued economic troubles.

Though Obama might try to stand above the fray of negative politics for now, it's unlikely he can sustain the tactic as Romney begins to ramp up attacks against the president for 8.2% unemployment, moderate economic growth and an abysmal housing sector.
