Piper Jaffray (NYSE: PJC) announced today that it has promoted Mike Ritzenthaler to senior research analyst, vice president, of clean technology and industrial growth. Ritzenthaler has extensive industry experience, relationships with key thought leaders and an in-depth understanding of industrial biotechnology. He will be based in Minneapolis and will cover a select list of small-, mid- and large-cap companies, primarily within diversified chemicals, advance materials and industrial biotech subsectors.

Prior to joining Piper Jaffray in 2010, Ritzenthaler worked as a chemical engineer for Natureworks, a joint venture with Dow Chemical and Cargill, as well as in plant design and construction with AMEC. He co-invented patents for fractionating lignocellulosics and yeast biotechnology, and won a NASA award for research and development on polymer composites.
Ritzenthaler holds bachelor’s degrees in chemistry from Lawrence University, Appleton, Wisconsin, and in chemical engineering from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri. He has held the Professional Engineer license from the state of Minnesota since 2007.
