Maxim Wins "Energy Technology Of The Year" In 2012 UBM Electronics ACE Awards

SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- UBM Electronics has presented Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. (NASDAQ: MXIM) with the "Energy Technology of the Year" Award in its 2012 Annual Creativity in Electronics (ACE) Awards for Maxim's MAX17710 energy-harvesting charger and protector.

The MAX17710 is the industry's first integrated circuit (IC) to integrate all power-management functions for ambient energy harvesting, as well as for charging and protecting micro-energy cells, a form of solid-state battery. It accepts energy from a variety of poorly regulated energy-harvesting sources with output levels ranging from 1uW to 100mW. Examples include light captured by photovoltaic cells, vibration captured by a piezoelectric element, heat captured by a thermoelectric generator, and RF (e.g., near-field communications). System designers are attracted to energy-harvesting-based solutions because they can eliminate the need to run expensive power cables to remote locations or to replace primary batteries frequently.

Maxim is a leader in analog innovation and integration, unique among semiconductor companies in the range of disparate analog functions that it can combine onto a single chip. The company's highly integrated solutions help customers get to market faster with systems that are smaller and consume less power. It was named a 2012 ACE Awards finalist for "Company of the Year."

The ACE Awards celebrate the creators of technology who demonstrate leadership and innovation in the global electronics industry and shape the world in which we live. Nominees were evaluated by a distinguished judging panel comprised of experts from industry and academia. Publishers and editors from UBM Electronics' EDN and Electronic Engineering Times presented Maxim executives with the ACE Award at a reception on March 27 in San Jose, Calif.
