Tried and True Rules for Getting Ahead in Your Career
NEW YORK (MainStreet) -- Many of the skills needed to succeed in today's economy are different from 10 years ago, but the general work ethic you need to get ahead in the workplace has not changed.
Mark Babbit, founder and CEO of YouTern, a career site for younger workers, recently rounded up 25 "old fart" rules college students and recent grads should follow to be successful in their careers. All of these rules are worth reading, but here are four in particular every student should take to heart:
|"Old fart" rules can still boost the chances of college students and recent grads getting ahead in business.|
No. 3: Nothing is more impressive than good, old-fashioned hustle.No. 11: Just as important as results is the attitude shown while achieving. No. 12: What you were taught in school, for the most part, doesn't apply here ... adapt, quickly. No. 22: The quickest way to make your way to the top is a willingness to work with us at the bottom. To these rules, we would add two of our own: First, young employees -- and really any employees -- should be generous with every person in the office, as you never know who will be your boss down the road. Second, say "yes" more often than you say "no." The more willing you are to take on assignments and do favors for co-workers, the better your reputation will be in the office. >To submit a news tip, email: email@example.com.
