ATHENS, Greece ⿿ Greece's coalition government promotes Philippos Sachinidis to finance minister as anti-austerity protests continue weeks before an expected general election. The deputy finance minister replaces Evangelos Venizelos, who quit the post Monday after being elected to head the majority Socialist party.

⿿ TAIWAN-PINGTAN PROBLEM ⿿ A Chinese attempt to develop a special economic zone with joint Taiwan management has run afoul of the government in Taipei, which sees it as an attempt by Beijing to make political inroads on the democratic island.

⿿ INDIA-KINGFISHER AIRLINES ⿿ Debt-laden Kingfisher Airlines said it will suspend all international flights from this weekend and prune its Indian services as the government considers canceling its license.

Citi still stressed

In recent months, Citigroup seemed to have gotten its groove back. The days when the government was its largest shareholder seemed like a distant memory. Then came the surprise failure to get approval from the Federal Reserve to pay out more dividends and buy back stock. It was a shocker for Wall Street.
