The New York Times Company announced today that Marc Frons has been named chief information officer effective immediately. He will report jointly to James Follo, senior vice president and chief financial officer, The New York Times Company and Denise Warren, chief advertising officer, The New York Times Media Group and general manager, NYTimes.com. Mr. Frons succeeds Joseph N. Seibert.
Mr. Frons, 55, served as chief technology officer of digital operations for The New York Times Media Group since 2006. From 2003 to 2006 he worked at Dow Jones & Company, leaving as vice president and chief technology officer for its Consumer Media Group. Mr. Frons worked at AOL Time Warner from 2002 to 2003, first as vice president and general manager of AOL Personal Finance and then as consulting editor for CNN Money.
Mr. Frons started his career as a journalist. He was a reporter and editor at Newsweek from 1979 to 1984 and a senior editor at BusinessWeek before leaving there in 1995 to start the financial Web site SmartMoney.com, where he held the title editor and chief technology officer. The site was the recipient of a National Magazine Award for interactive design in 2001. He received a B.A. in psychology from Brooklyn College in 1977.
