Ingersoll Rand Receives EPA Climate Leadership Award For Aggressive Targets To Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Ingersoll-Rand plc (NYSE:IR), a world leader in creating and sustaining safe, comfortable and efficient environments, was recognized at the first annual Climate Leadership Awards for the company’s efforts to publicly report and verify corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories and publicly set aggressive absolute GHG emissions reduction goals. The Climate Leadership Awards is a new program administered through a partnership with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Climate Registry, the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions, and the Association of Climate Change Officers.

The award was presented this week at the first annual Climate Leadership Conference in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The conference brings together leaders from business, government, academia and nonprofit organizations interested in exchanging ideas and information on how to address climate change while simultaneously running their operations more competitively and sustainably.

“Receiving recognition from the EPA and other climate policy stakeholder groups is a testament to the enterprise-wide sustainability, commitment and hard work of our environmental, health and safety, manufacturing and operations teams throughout the company,” said Joe Wolfsberger, vice president of environmental health and safety at Ingersoll Rand. “While we acknowledge there is still plenty of opportunity to address our emissions, waste and carbon footprint, this is a valuable barometer with which to benchmark our success.”

Companies applying for this prestigious recognition must have: set aggressive reduction target requirements for greenhouse gas emissions; demonstrated how the organization’s GHG reduction significantly exceeds credible and transparent peer benchmarks; publicly disclosed base year inventory consistent with GHG inventory reporting requirements; and provided third-party verification for reduction in corporate footprints.
