Nokia Unveils Low-Price Windows Phone
BARCELONA, Spain -- Struggling mobile phone maker Nokia (NOK) has unveiled a low-price €189 ($254) smartphone with Windows software at the world's largest cell phone trade show.
Nokia also took advantage of the Mobile World Congress to introduce a phone with a high-resolution 41 megapixel camera that the company boasts can turn anyone into a professional photographer.
CEO Stephen Elop told reporters Monday that the introduction of the new phones means the Finnish company is "demonstrating the actions necessary to improve the fortunes of Nokia."
Analysts said the new smartphone could attract users because it is cheaper than others, but investors sent Nokia shares down more than 5% to €4.10 ($5.50) in morning trading in Helsinki.
