Garmin® Introduces GHP™ 20 Steer-by-Wire Autopilot For Teleflex Marine® Optimus 360 Systems

Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), the global leader in satellite navigation, today announced its new GHP 20 Steer-by-Wire Autopilot – a marine autopilot certified for all Teleflex Marine Optimus Electronic Power Steering (EPS) Systems. EPS is a key component of the new Optimus 360 by SeaStar® System. The Optimus 360 is the first integrated boat control solution that enables complete maneuverability for twin outboard boats. Garmin’s GHP 20 for Optimus is being announced in conjunction with the Miami International Boat Show, February 16-20, 2012.

The patented Optimus 360 system is a revolutionary joystick steering/shift/throttle control system, engineered for powerboats with twin mechanically-controlled outboards. This system uses state-of-the-art electronics to provide easy 360-degree maneuvering capabilities so that the helmsman can confidently move the boat forward, backwards, diagonally, rotate it on its own axis, or even more sideways to accomplish tricky docking maneuvers.

Coupled with a Teleflex Marine Optimus 360 system, Garmin’s GHP 20 Steer-by-Wire autopilot provides superior control algorithms for unmatched autopilot performance. Thanks to dynamic gain adjustments based on tachometer information provided by the Optimus system, the GHP 20 Steer-by-Wire offers optimal performance at all speeds.
