Arch Coal (ACI) downgraded at Argus from Buy to Hold, Argus Research said. Coal demand could be hurt as utilities move toward using natural gas.

American Assets Trust (AAT) coverage is initiated with a hold at TheStreet Ratings.

Alexander & Baldwin (ALEX) downgraded at KBW from Outperform to Market Perform, Keefe, Bruyette & Woods said. Valuation call, based on a $50 price target.

AthenaHealth (ATHN) downgraded at Leerink to Market Perform, Leerink Swann said. Valuation call, as the stock is up more than 30% over the past two months.

Bank of America (BAC) downgraded at Citigroup to Neutral from Buy, UBS said. $8.50 price target. Recent run up reflects capital concerns subsiding.

Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY) downgraded at Citigroup to Neutral from Buy, Citigroup said. Valuation call and increased competition from online retailers.

CBOE (CBOE) downgraded at Credit Suisse from Outperform to Neutral, Credit Suisse said. Valuation call, based on a $28 price target.

Curtiss-Wright (CW) upgraded at Wedbush from Neutral to Outperform, Wedbush said. $48 price target. Commercial demand should remain strong.

Gap (GPS) upgraded at Citigroup to Buy from Neutral, Citigroup said. $26 price target. 2012 should surprise to the upside.

Murphy Oil (MUR) rated new Buy at Brean Murray. $71 price target. Company has several potential catalysts in 2012.

NY Community Bancorp (NYB) downgraded at Guggenheim from Buy to Neutral, Guggenheim said. Company is facing increased competition.

Rackspace (RAX) upgraded at Benchmark from Hold to Buy, Benchmark said. $60 price target. Estimates also boosted, as the company is carrying a lot of momentum into 2012.

Williams Sonoma (WSM) upgraded at Citigroup to Buy from Neutral, Citigroup said. $42 price target. Ongoing product differentiation and strong merchandising sales.

Alexion Pharma (ALXN) numbers raised at Morgan Stanley. Shares of ALXN now seen reaching $96, according to Morgan Stanley. Estimates also increased, as the company is seeing higher sales and keeping a tight lid on operating costs. Overweight rating.

BMC Software (BMC) target raised at Jefferies to $42, Jefferies said. Updating model following completion of its Numara acquisition. Buy rating.
