The American Council of Engineering Companies New Jersey chapter has awarded a 2012 Engineering Excellence Distinguished Award to New Jersey American Water for the company’s installation of a new water transmission main to Ancora Psychiatric Hospital. Representatives of New Jersey American Water will receive the award on March 14, 2012 at an ACECNJ awards banquet at the Forsgate Country Club.
As part of an agreement with the New Jersey Department of Human Services and the Township of Winslow in Camden County, New Jersey American Water installed a 2-mile water main – including meter and control valve chambers – that has the capacity to deliver more than 400,000 gallons of water daily to the Ancora Psychiatric Hospital in Winslow, N.J., thereby supplying the facility with 100 percent of its potable water needs. “Providing solutions to communities' water needs is something in which New Jersey American Water takes great pride,” said Suzanne Chiavari, vice president of engineering for New Jersey American Water. “We are grateful to the American Council of Engineering Companies for this honor.” New Jersey American Water, a wholly owned subsidiary of American Water (NYSE: AWK), is the largest investor-owned water utility in the state, providing high-quality and reliable water and/or wastewater services to approximately 2.5 million people. Founded in 1886, American Water is the largest publicly traded U.S. water and wastewater utility company. With headquarters in Voorhees, N.J., the company employs more than 7,000 dedicated professionals who provide drinking water, wastewater and other related services to approximately 15 million people in more than 30 states, as well as parts of Canada.
