Without further ado, here are Mercury Direct's five money-saving travel tips:- Do not change money at the airport: Exchange rates at UK airport bureaux de changes' aren't favourable and far less generous than those along the high-street, so make sure you change your hard-earned money before heading to the airport.
- Apply for a European Health Insurance Card: The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) allows you to get state-provided health care in all European Economic Area (EEA) countries at a reduced cost. Applications are free and the card is valid for five years. However each countries healthcare system is different, so make sure you check Malta's before travelling.
- Make sure your passport is valid: Firstly, travellers won't need a visa to gain entry into Malta- as it's part of the European Union. Obtaining a new UK passport on such short notice is both irksome and costly.
- Always pay in pound sterling on the plane: Covertly airlines charge a currency exchange fee. They may advertise the cost of items in pound sterling however when prices are quoted in euros, the mark-up is excessively high.
