Glencore Buys Xstrata, Frontier Offers Wi-Fi: Hot Trends

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Popular searches on the Internet Tuesday include Glencore on news the company has agreed to buy miner Xstrata for $41 billion in stock in the largest mining takeover since 2007, forming a company worth $90 billion.
Called a "merger of equals," the deal combines Glencore, the world's largest diversified commodities trading house, and the world's fourth-biggest diversified miner, Xstrata. Glencore will buy the remaining 66% of Xstrata, before issuing 2.8 new shares for each Xstrata share.Frontier Airlines is trending on the announcement that it will be offering Wi-Fi on board its Enabler 190 fleet beginning Tuesday. In honor of the launch, all Frontier passengers will receive 30 minutes of free Wi-Fi for the rest of the month. The cost of Wi-Fi for laptops will otherwise be $4.95 on flights up to 650 miles; $9.95 for flights 651 to 1,150 miles; and $12.95 for flights over 1,151 miles. Mobile Wi-Fi users will pay $4.95 for flights up to 650 miles and $7.95 for 651 miles and longer. Passengers also can purchase 15 minutes of Wi-Fi access for $1.95 on flights up to 650 miles.
Wal-Mart (WMT) is another hot topic as the retail chain unveils its "Great for You" icon Tuesday at an event in Washington. The retailer has said it's making some of its private-label foods healthier and will market those foods under its Marketside and Great Value labels with the new "Great for You" icon. The icon, part of the chain's movement to give customers an easier way to identify healthier food, will appear on the front of all packages of healthier foods, including fruits and vegetables, which already meet the store's health criteria. Wal-Mart's health criteria focuses on products' sugar, salt and fat content.
