Oil Prices Rise After Drop In US Unemployment Rate

NEW YORK (AP) — A surge in U.S. hiring lifted oil prices for the first time in a week. As more Americans commute to work and the economy picks up, demand for energy is expected to rise.

Here's a breakdown of how energy prices traded Friday:

On the New York Mercantile Exchange:

Crude: added $1.48 to $97.84 per barrel;

Gasoline: rose by 4.55 cents to $2.9144 per gallon;

Heating oil: increased by 6.15 cents to $3.1144 per gallon;

Natural gas: fell by 5.5 cents to $2.499 per 1,000 cubic feet.

On the ICE futures exchange:

Brent crude: added $2.51 to $114.58 per barrel.
