Merck Beats, Expects Flat 2012 Adjusted EPS

- Merck(MRK), the drugs and health care giant, reported fourth-quarter adjusted earnings of $2.98 billion, or 97 cents a share.
- Revenue was $12.29 billion.
- Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expected Merck to earn 95 cents a share in the fourth quarter on revenue of $12.53 billion.
- Net income was $1.51 billion, or 49 cents a share. A year earlier, Merck posted a loss of $531 million, or 17 cents. Adjusted profit in the year-earlier fourth quarter was 88 cents.
- Merck said it expects non-GAAP EPS in 2012 of between $3.75 and $3.85. Non-GAAP profit in 2011 was $3.77 a share
