Cedar Point Donates Nearly $6,000 To Local Charities

SANDUSKY, Ohio, Dec. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Cedar Point has recently made food and monetary donations to two Sandusky-area organizations that will help needy families during the holiday season.

Recipients of the Sandusky, Ohio, amusement park/resort's donations were the Victory Temple Soup Kitchen and the Salvation Army.

Recently, the park gave more than $1,000, all of the money in its Loose Change Fund, to the Victory Temple Soup Kitchen.  First started in 1988, the Loose Change Fund, money found in the park during the summer, has collected and donated more than $187,000 to local organizations.

The park also donated more than $4,800 of food and beverages to the Victory Temple Soup Kitchen and the Salvation Army.  Donated items included vegetables, fruits, meats, milk, juices, tea, cheese and cereal.  In the last three years, Cedar Point has given more than $13,000 in food products to local organizations.

"We are extremely grateful for these donations and Cedar Point's continued support of the Victory Temple Soup Kitchen and the needy people in the area," said Rev. Lonnie R. Walters, senior pastor of the Victory Temple Church.  "These gifts will help us provide much-needed assistance to our less fortunate neighbors."

During the season, Cedar Point employees collect and turn in any money found along the midway, beneath the rides and in the park's water attractions to the Loose Change Fund.
