PARK RIDGE, N.J., Dec. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- At the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Annual Meeting, Sony Electronics announced its plans to enter the radiology display space.  The company is leveraging its proven expertise in display technology to bring a comprehensive line of diagnostic-quality, medical-grade displays to the radiology market.

"Sony has set the standard for medical display technology," said George Santanello, general manager, Sony Electronics' Medical Systems Division. "Now radiology professionals can benefit from the viewing advantages offered by our complete line of diagnostic-quality monitors.  At this year's RSNA, radiologists and medical professionals showed great interest in the technological and clinical advantages of Sony's displays."

Sony recently introduced the world's first medical-grade surgical monitor using the company's unique OLED technology, the PVM-2551MD (pending 510(k) clearance).  OLED produces high-quality, high-contrast output and delivers an extremely wide color gamut, particularly when compared to even the highest-quality LCD displays.  It also provides a much quicker response time than LCD, enabling it to display quick motion of images, such as in ultrasound, with virtually no motion blur.  Using Sony's TRIMASTER EL technology, the OLED monitor is capable of reproducing pure black, faithful to the source signal.

Sony's full line-up of radiology monitors include:

  • 5MP Diagnostic Display for Mammography
  • 3MP Color Display, 3MP Grayscale Display
  • 2MP Color Display, 2MP Grayscale Display

The Sony Radiology monitors are targeted for release in early spring 2012.  For more information on Sony products, please visit www.sony.com/medical.
