Priceline.com, Solazyme: After-Hours Trading

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Shares of Priceline.com (PCLN) gained in late trades on Monday after the Norwalk, Conn., online travel booking company handily beat Wall Street expectations for its third-quarter results.

After the closing bell, the company posted non-GAAP earnings of $512.6 million, or $9.95 a share, for the three months ended Sept. 30 on revenue of $1.45 billion, up more than 45% from the same period a year earlier. The average estimate of analysts polled by Thomson Reuters was for a profit of $9.30 a share on revenue of $1.42 billion in the latest quarter.

Gross bookings, which includes taxes and fees, for all travel services totaled $6.26 billion in the quarter, an increase of more than 50% from the same period a year earlier. The company said its airline ticketing business saw its strongest quarterly growth in seven quarters with ticket sales rising 7%.

The stock was last quoted at $521, up 2.4%, on volume of more than 640,000, according to Nasdaq.com. Based on Monday's regular session close at $509, the shares are up more than 25% in 2011.

"The Group's businesses all enjoyed a strong 3rd quarter," said Jeffery Boyd, the company's president and CEO, in a statement. "Our global hotel nights grew by 47% over last year, reflecting moderate deceleration from the 2nd quarter. We believe our retail hotel businesses at Booking.com, Agoda and priceline.com continued to take meaningful share in their respective markets during the quarter, though our Name Your Own Price hotel business is challenged by increasing competition in the discount space."

For its fiscal fourth quarter ending in December, Priceline said it expects non-GAAP earnings of $4.90 to $5 per share and year-over-year revenue growth of 27%-32%. Wall Street's current consensus estimate is for a profit of $5.13 a share in the fourth quarter.

Solazyme

Solazyme (SZYM) shares jumped in extended action after the company announced a commercial flight had been completed using Solajet, its algae-derived renewable jet fuel.

The stock was last quoted at $11, up 17.4%, on volume of more than 10,000, according to Nasdaq.com.
