Boeing Can't Like World Air Cargo Trends
IATA said air cargo's share of international trade volume "always reaches a cyclical high early in an economic recovery," as demand tends to increase rapidly. For the past year, however, the air cargo share of trade volume has been in decline. "By value of the goods shipped, air freight in the U.S. has seen its share of exports and imports slip 4% from post-recession highs," the group said.
In particular, shippers of semiconductors and other high value-low volume components of the electronic supply chain are key air freight customers. Semiconductor shipments "are now shrinking," IATA said, and "falling prices for semiconductors have led to more being shipped by other, slower but cheaper transport modes."
