NUMERA EXTENDS MOBILE HEALTH COACHING PLATFORM WITH IPHONE APPLICATION

Gateway allows Apple iPhones, iPads, and iPod touch to act as a communication hub between wireless health devices and electronic health records

With a focus on providing low cost, easy-to-use mobile health coaching solutions, Numera has released an iOS gateway application enabling consumers to use an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to upload health data to their electronic health record. The app provides a mobile version of the Numera|Net gateway to securely share vital health information from a variety of wireless health and wellness products via the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, adding to the PC and Home Hub gateways Numera currently offers. The app is available now in the Apple app store as a free download.

Numera|Net Gateway for iOS provides a simple way for patients to monitor, trend, and share information stored on devices that capture health measurements, including weight scales, pedometers and blood pressure monitors. The supported devices are widely available to consumers, continuing Numera’s mission to make health monitoring and coaching platforms accessible to the broadest population of consumers. Additional devices will be added to the iOS platform in the coming weeks.

“Mobile devices are a primary way patients communicate everyday, so it’s a natural progression that they’ll use their smartphones as a primary tool in managing their care and wellness on a daily basis,” said Tim Smokoff, CEO of Numera. “We want to eliminate the barriers between consumers and their ‘coaches’ – family, friends, colleagues, and caregivers – to ensure that real-time, accurate health information can be accessed by the broadest population of consumers to enhance overall health and wellness.”

Numera is testing the iOS application at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation (Palo Alto, CA) in a study involving patients with hypertension. During this testing period, patients are asked to upload data from a blood pressure cuff, an activity monitor and a weight scale through iPhones. The Foundation plans to evaluate the intervention in a clinical trial in early 2012.
