Energy Stocks: Winners and Losers

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Shares of Complete Production Services (CPX ), Cobalt International Energy (CIE ), Gran Tierra Energy (GTE ) and ReneSola (SOL ) made gains last week, while shares of First Solar (FSLR ), Superior Energy Services (SPN ), Chesapeake Midstream Partners (CHKM ) and TransAtlantic Petroleum Ltd. (TAT ) fell.

Complete Production Services led the pack of winners last week, gaining 53.2%.

Cobalt International Energy rose 26.4%.

Gran Tierra Energy improved 25.3%. The company starts exploration drilling operations on two oil prospects in Brazil, as per International Resource News.

ReneSola increased 23.8%.

Other movers were Frontline Ltd. (FRO ) (up 23.0%), Oasis Petroleum (OAS ) (up 22.7%), Forest Oil Corp (FST ) (up 22.6%) and Denbury Resources Inc (DNR ) (up 22.0%).

Range Resources Corp (RRC ) gained 20.8%. According to Bloomberg, the company rose on speculation of a takeover bid. Range Resources is a holder of 1.2 million net acres in the Marcellus Shale natural gas field.

Oil States International Inc (OIS ) added 20.2%. The company was upgraded to overweight from equal weight at Johnson Rice.

Precision Drilling Corp. (PDS ) added 19.9%. The company was rated a new accumulate at Global Hunter Securities. The 12-month target price is $13.0 a share.

Helix Energy Solutions Group (HLX ) and Trina Solar (TSL ) climbed 19.9% and 19.6%, respectively.

Valero Energy Corp (VLO ) gained 19.4%. The company was raised to overweight from equal-weight at Barclays capital. The 12-month target price is $35.0 a share.

On average, Advantage Oil & Gas (AAV ), Key Energy Services (KEG ), Brigham Exploration Co (BEXP ), Tesoro Corp (TSO ) and Berry Petroleum Co (BRY ) closed 17%-18% higher last week.

Talisman Energy Inc (TLM ) rose 14%. The company was raised to outperform from market perform.

First Solar was the top decliner, plunging 5.9%.

Superior Energy Services and Chesapeake Midstream Partners shed 2.9% and 1.9%, respectively.

TransAtlantic Petroleum lost 1.3%. The company was cut to accumulate from buy at Global Hunter Securities.

JA Solar Holdings (JASO ) and China Petroleum & Chemical (SNP ) each lost 0.5% last week.
