First BanCorp Announces Special Meeting Of Stockholders

First BanCorp (the “Corporation”) (NYSE: FBP), the bank holding company for FirstBank Puerto Rico (“FirstBank” or “the Bank”), announces that a special meeting (the “Special Meeting”) of the holders of the Corporation’s common stock will be held at the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino, 22 Convention Blvd., San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. (Puerto Rico time). At the Special Meeting, stockholders will be asked to approve the issuance of shares of Common Stock to institutional investors in connection with the previously announced capital raise.

The board of directors of the Corporation has fixed the close of business on July 5, 2011 as the record date for determining the stockholders of record who are entitled to receive notice of the Special Meeting and to attend and vote at the Special Meeting and any adjournment(s) or postponement(s) thereof.
