BENTONVILLE, Ark., April 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Considered among the oldest buildings locally, the fully restored Walmart Visitor Center will re-open on May 21 at 12 p.m. in the historic Terry Block building. There are several additions to the newly renovated Center, dedicated to the heritage and life of Walmart and its founder, Sam Walton, including a working five-and-dime store, complete with vintage toys, games and candies, and the Spark Cafe for casual sidewalk coffees, baked goods and treats. The Center will also introduce an expanded gallery where visitors can view a variety of new and restored items significant to Walmart's history.

"Preserving this historic landmark and redesigning and archiving one of the greatest stories in business history has been both a humbling and rewarding experience for everyone involved," said Alan Dranow, director, brand communication for Walmart. "After listening, planning and sharing information, we believe the next generation of visitors, associates and neighbors to the Center will experience a much deeper understanding of Walmart and enjoy a little taste of Americana while they're here."

Visitors will still see founder Sam Walton's Ford pickup and fully preserved office and desk, in addition to new interactive digital displays, video and audio clips of company history and a few seasonal surprises for the return visitor. A timeline will highlight the early years of retail in Walton's personal and professional life and pay tribute to the associates and family members who contributed to the company's growth and success.
