National Fan Day Declared For April 30, 2011
NEW YORK, April 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- With labor strife in the NFL and looming for the NBA, ever rising ticket prices, and difficult economic conditions, fans across the country are suffering. My Fan Rewards, a loyalty provider for sports and entertainment brands, has decided to do something about it. In partnership with Affinity Solutions and professional sports teams from the NFL, NBA, and NHL, My Fan Rewards is officially declaring April 30, 2011 "National Fan Day" – an official day of recognition where it is formally acknowledged that without the fans, the Super Bowl, the World Series, the Stanley Cup, the NBA Finals, March Madness, the BCS Championship Game, and all forms of live entertainment would not exist.
National Fan Day is being supported by over a dozen professional sports teams, including the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets, and Jacksonville Jaguars. The day will also be backed by major national retailers, including Sony, Barnes & Noble, 1-800 Flowers, and ExxonMobil, who will be offering special discounts for fans at nationalfanday.com. "We wondered why we celebrate Mother's Day, Father's Day, Administrative Professional's Day, and even Earth Day, but we don't celebrate an official fan appreciation day," said Marc Kolin, President and CEO of My Fan Rewards. "We hope to make National Fan Day an annual holiday, and we are delighted to have the support of so many teams who wanted to make sure that their fans understand how important they are. Fans should know that despite whatever labor difficulties may be going on, the teams really do not take them for granted." Fans will be participating at nationalfanday.com in several ways.- There will be a contest to see which fan will be the face of National Fan Day. Fans are encouraged to submit their best fan photos which will be voted on to declare the country's ultimate fan.
- During registration, fans will be asked to select their favorite team. The team with the most registrations will officially be declared "America's Team" for the next year.
- Fans will also have a chance to submit their ideas for a Fans Bill of Rights.
- In addition, fans can access special discounts from national retailers such as Sony, Macy's, 1-800 Flowers, Barnes & Noble, and ExxonMobil. A portion of each transaction made will be donated to the American Red Cross.
