Gold Market, Wind Power: Hot Trends

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- "Gold market" is a trending net search as gold prices tumbled on Tuesday.

Gold for June delivery was down $19.80 to $1,448.30 an ounce at the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. The gold price has traded as high as $1,468.50 and as low as $1,445 while the spot gold price was slipping more than $15, according to Kitco's gold index.

On Monday, Goldman Sachs(GS) issued a research note urging clients to take profits in commodities, saying high oil prices could start to eat into demand.

"Wind power" is a heavily searched topic after the American Wind Energy Association claimed America's wind power industry grew by 15% in 2010. According to the U.S. Wind Industry report released on Thursday, wind energy provided 26% of all new electric generating capacity in the United States last year.

"It's simple: Wind is affordable," AWEA Director of Data and Analysis and Chief Economist Elizabeth Salerno said. "It's costing less than ever, and competing with other sources thanks to improved turbines built for better performance without a big price tag."

The AWEA said that wind is becoming an "important player in the nation's energy sector."

"The American wind industry is delivering, despite competing with energy sectors that have permanent government subsidies in place," CEO Denise Bode said in a statement. "We remain on track to produce 20% of America's electricity by 2030 with wind, as laid out by the Department of Energy during the Bush Administration. We know wind is ready to deliver even more of our portfolio with clean, affordable, homegrown power."
