Aoxing Pharmaceutical Company Inc. Stock Downgraded (AXN)

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Aoxing Pharmaceutical Company (AMEX:AXN) has been downgraded by TheStreet Ratings from hold to sell. The company's weaknesses can be seen in multiple areas, such as its deteriorating net income, disappointing return on equity, generally disappointing historical performance in the stock itself and feeble growth in its earnings per share.

Highlights from the ratings report include:

  • The current debt-to-equity ratio, 0.52, is low and is below the industry average, implying that there has been successful management of debt levels. Even though the company has a strong debt-to-equity ratio, the quick ratio of 0.36 is very weak and demonstrates a lack of ability to pay short-term obligations.
  • AOXING PHARMACEUTICAL CO INC has exprienced a steep decline in earnings per share in the most recent quarter in comparison to its performance from the same quarter a year ago. Stable earnings per share over the past year indicate the company has managed its earnings and share float. We anticipate this stability to falter in the coming year and, in turn, the company to deliver lower earnings per share than prior full year. During the past fiscal year, AOXING PHARMACEUTICAL CO INC continued to lose money by earning -$0.03 versus -$0.04 in the prior year. For the next year, the market is expecting a contraction of 266.7% in earnings (-$0.11 versus -$0.03).
  • The share price of AOXING PHARMACEUTICAL CO INC has not done very well: it is down 9.24% and has underperformed the S&P 500, in part reflecting the company's sharply declining earnings per share when compared to the year-earlier quarter. Turning toward the future, the fact that the stock has come down in price over the past year should not necessarily be interpreted as a negative; it could be one of the factors that may help make the stock attractive down the road. Right now, however, we believe that it is too soon to buy.
  • Return on equity has greatly decreased when compared to its ROE from the same quarter one year prior. This is a signal of major weakness within the corporation. Compared to other companies in the Pharmaceuticals industry and the overall market, AOXING PHARMACEUTICAL CO INC's return on equity significantly trails that of both the industry average and the S&P 500.
  • The company, on the basis of change in net income from the same quarter one year ago, has significantly underperformed when compared to that of the S&P 500 and the Pharmaceuticals industry. The net income has significantly decreased by 100.9% when compared to the same quarter one year ago, falling from $5.28 million to -$0.05 million.

China Aoxing Pharmaceutical Co., Inc., a specialty pharmaceutical company, engages in the research, development, manufacture, and distribution of various narcotics and pain management products in China. Its product line includes prescription and over-the-counter pharmaceutical products. Aoxing has a market cap of $78.6 million and is part of the health care sector and drugs industry. Shares are down 38.7% year to date as of the close of trading on Monday.
