Dell Chengdu Global Operation Facility Groundbreaking In Chengdu Hi-Tech Zone
CHENGDU, China, March 23, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Today, Dell, the world's leading systems and services provider, held its groundbreaking ceremony for Dell Chengdu Global Operation Facility at Chengdu Hi-Tech Zone.
An agreement was signed between Dell and Chengdu Municipal Government on Sept. 14, 2010 that Dell will build its Dell ( Chengdu) Flagship Facility engaging in manufacturing, sales and customer services in Chengdu Hi-Tech Zone. After effective communications between the two sides, Dell decided to establish its global operation facility covering its complete industrial chain in Chengdu, making it one of the most important pivots of Dell's global operation system, and promoting Dell's overall transformation. Dell is going to build the Chengdu Global Operation Facility into a world-class modernized manufacturing center, with a complete production line to cover its entire portfolio including government service, large business, consumer, and small and medium business, by utilizing its global product development and design resources. The first batch of products are expected to off the assembly line in Q4 of the fiscal year of 2012, which will contribute to the increase of Dell's global supply volume in the fiscal year of 2013. Dell Chengdu Global Operation Facility will supply the international market as well as meet the needs of domestic Chinese customers, targeting a global product supply system with the mutual support and complementarity of Dell Xiamen Operation Center. With the establishment of Dell Chengdu Global Operation Facility, more global suppliers will be drawn here to seek further development, which will help local suppliers in Sichuan and Chengdu to strengthen their capabilities of serving global markets, upgrade the overall industrial level of Chengdu's manufacturing industry, and create an optimized supply chain and logistics system. The building and operation of this facility in the next few years will create over 3,000 job opportunities for areas in and around Chengdu. In addition, this facility is to be built into a green operation center. This facility will be carbon-neutral, with markedly reduced energy consumption. The energy consumed in the manufacturing of all products will be 25% lower and green packaging will be adopted. Dell has set up its first customer service center of west China in Tianfu Software Park, Chengdu Hi-Tech Zone on Jan. 17, 2010. It is reported that IT giant Intel, TI, Foxconn, Lenovo, Compal, and Wistron have all made strategic presence in Chengdu. It is expected that the computer output capacity of Chengdu will reach 100 million units in Oct. 2011, accounting for 20% of the world's total and 170 million units in 2013.
