DETROIT, March 21, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Compuware Corporation (Nasdaq:CPWR), the technology performance company, today announced that it will highlight the Compuware Workbench at the Hot New Products Showcase at EclipseCon 2011. The Workbench is a new, open environment for managing mainframe application development through an Eclipse graphical user interface (GUI).

What:           Eclipse Hot New Products Showcase

When:          Wednesday, March 23, 2011, 5:50 p.m.

Where:         Hyatt Regency Santa Clara, Ballroom E, Santa Clara, California

"We're happy to have Compuware sharing the Compuware Workbench with us here at EclipseCon 2011," said Mike Milinkovich, Executive Director, Eclipse Foundation. "We think our community will benefit from seeing how a leading IT corporation leverages the Eclipse platform to address some of the major challenges facing today's IT organizations."

The Compuware Workbench accelerates mainframe application development and maintenance productivity through both a modern GUI and a tighter integration across Compuware products. This combination minimizes the time it takes to accomplish application life cycle tasks, improving the productivity of the user and the quality of the deliverable.

The Workbench also helps IT organizations face the challenge brought on by retiring mainframe workers, many of whom are already in their late fifties or early sixties. Their replacements will need training on mainframe specific components. Additionally, many new mainframe programmers may find the traditional mainframe TSO/ISPF based tooling to be unfamiliar, prompting the need for a contemporary development platform. Compuware's modernized, alternative point-and-click user interface eliminates the need for training on the traditional mainframe interface, significantly shortening the potentially costly learning curve.

"The Compuware Workbench blends together the accessibility of an Eclipse interface with the proven reliability of our Mainframe tools," said Sesh Gonella, Director of Mainframe Product Management, Compuware. "The resulting combination offers benefits for any mainframe-centric organization. We are very pleased to showcase that combination at EclipseCon 2011."
