MELVILLE, N.Y., March 15, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq:CMTL) announced today that its Santa Clara, California-based subsidiary, Comtech Xicom Technology, Inc., received a $1.2 million order for high linearity, Ka-band power amplifiers for high-capacity fly-away satellite communication (SATCOM) terminals for the U.S. Military. The market demand for these amplifiers is driven by the continuing deployment of the Wideband Global Satcom (WGS) satellite system. Comtech Xicom's amplifiers are designed to provide very high linear power in a compact, outdoor package enabling much higher data-rate SATCOM uplinks for use in rugged, transportable terminals under all environmental conditions. Beyond high linear power and rugged compact packaging, the high power amplifiers (HPAs) are very power-efficient making them ideal for operation using power sources including generators or batteries. "Our customer came to Comtech Xicom Technology for a solution to their problem. They needed a new outdoor amplifier that provided twice the linear power in the same size, weight and prime power of the one in their existing system," said Fred Kornberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp. "Our team stepped up to this challenge and is now delivering an exceptional product that meets their requirements." Comtech Xicom Technology, Inc., a world leader in high-power amplifiers, manufactures a wide variety of tube-based and solid-state power amplifiers for military and commercial satellite uplink applications. The product range encompasses power levels from 8 W to 3 kW, with frequency coverage in sub-bands within the 2 GHz to 45 GHz spectrum. Amplifiers are available for fixed and ground-based, ship-board, and airborne mobile applications. Please visit www.xicomtech.com for more information.
