Financial Losers: Comerica, JPMorgan

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- After seeing Japan's Nikkei Stock Average plunge 11% following a third explosion at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant, stocks of large U.S. bank holding companies were down, with Comerica (CMA) and JPMorgan Chase (JPM) each seeing 3% declines.

Comerica was trading for $37.15 and JPMorgan was changing hands at $44.03 in late morning trading.

The KBW Bank Index (BKX) was down 2% 51.25.

All 24 components of the index were down, and components falling over 2% included Bank of America (BAC), trading at $13.92; Citigroup (C), trading at $4.44; Northern Trust (NTRS), at $49.41; PNC Financial (PNC), at $61.12; and Zions Bancorporation (ZION), which was trading at $22.59.

The Wall Street Journal reported late Monday that Bank of America cut more than 100 jobs in its consumer and small-business banking division, citing a company spokeswoman. The report also said the bank was planning on closing or consolidating roughly 10% of its branches over the next few years
