ROCKVILLE, Md., Feb. 15, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Telvent (Nasdaq:TLVT), the IT company for a sustainable and secure world, announced today that it has been awarded a contract by Infraero, the Brazilian Company for Airport Infrastructures, to deliver a new, digital radio communications network to 18 Brazilian airports. Telvent's communications technology was selected for the reliability and security it has demonstrated in deployments by AENA, Spain's global airport and air navigation services operator.

The standards-compliant Telvent platform affords privacy and security, and its high availability will improve communications efficiency and service to air travelers during routine airport operations at these Brazilian airports. This robust functionality also will assure communications reliability in emergencies or events when a high level of coordination of activities and processes is necessary. The system's demonstrated performance will help manage the significant air traffic associated with the 2014 World Cup tournament, recently awarded to Brazil.

According to Ignacio Gonzalez, Telvent's CEO, "This project reflects our commitment to Brazil and its infrastructure, destined to serve many world-class events in the future. The Telvent telecommunications system selected by Infraero is designed to interface with other standardized information systems and enable effective joint communications among different entities and agencies. Its modular design makes it scalable and a long-lived solution that Infraero will count on as Brazil's airport operations continue to grow."

This project adds to Telvent's portfolio of telecommunications solutions deployed worldwide to optimize management of airport functions, reduce operating costs, improve services to airport customers and enhance security of facilities and assets.
