OPNET Introduces BTM Xpert(TM) - Solution For Business Transaction Management

BETHESDA, Md., Feb. 8, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- OPNET Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:OPNT), a leading provider of solutions for application and network performance management, today announced a new offering for business transaction management (BTM). This new offering is based on a combination of capabilities in several of the solutions within its APM Xpert™ suite. Business transactions are composite workflows consisting of multiple user-level transactions with an online system. Business stakeholders measure application performance in terms of business transactions and are interested in understanding not only the performance experienced by users, but also their behavior, including their "click path" and potential reasons they may have abandoned a transaction.

BTM Xpert relies on OPNET's AppResponse Xpert™ appliance to intercept all business transactions, analyze their performance, and perform user analytics. This includes a funnel analysis showing how a population of users progresses through the multiple steps of a business transaction. BTM Xpert also relies on OPNET's AppInternals Xpert™ solution to follow transactions through a back-end infrastructure consisting of multiple tiers, including application and database servers. By following a transaction through each tier and providing a consolidated view of the data across all tiers together with end user experience, BTM Xpert provides customers with the ability to determine which part of the infrastructure is responsible for performance degradation.

"With this new offering, OPNET is leveraging its unique position as a leader in several areas: end user experience monitoring; deep component monitoring and transaction tracing within the back-end infrastructure; and high-volume forensic data collection," according to Alain Cohen, OPNET's President and CTO. "This is a powerful combination of technologies that we believe constitutes a break-through in the performance management space, because we are synthesizing all relevant data for a transaction, spanning all levels of granularity, across both server and network assets. While traditional Business Transaction Management combines end user experience monitoring with transaction following, OPNET is taking this approach to the next step by joining two key capabilities: user analytics that identify when performance issues are impacting business; and deep transaction tracing down to the code level for the most precise possible root cause analysis."
