Lucky the Game's Indoors -- Dallas Hit by Snow

Updated from 1:25 p.m. EST

DALLAS (TheStreet) --Two days before the Pittsburgh Steelers meet the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XLV, Dallas, the host city, has been hit by three to six inches of snow.

It's the second winter storm this week and the area has been gripped by bitter cold the past three days. Temperatures in the 20s and 30s are far below the average Dallas temperature in early February of about 57 degrees.

A winter storm warning for Dallas is in effect until 4 p.m. CST Friday, according to the National Weather Service. Total snowfall could reach eight inches in some areas.

The National Weather Service says the cold snap won't end until Saturday afternoon when temperatures will rise to about 41 degrees. At the 6:30 p.m. EST game time Sunday in Dallas, temperatures of 45 degrees are expected under sunny skies.

But those watching Super Bowl at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, won't be bothered by the weather. The game is being played indoors at the $1.2 billion arena.

Officials at Dallas/Forth Worth Airport said late Friday morning that all runways were open, but there numerous flight cancellations and delays, the Dallas Morning News reports.

American Airlines (AMR) and its American Eagle regional affiliate by midmorning Friday had canceled about half of their flights at the airport, including more than 300 arriving flights through early afternoon, the Los Angeles Times reports. The carrier expected Friday to be the busiest day for fans attending the Super Bowl.

Houston, and all of Southeast Texas, are under a winter storm warning through early this afternoon. Houston was hit Friday by light snow and freezing drizzle and ice accumulation of one-tenth to one-quarter inch of ice, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm is expected to make its way the Northeast by Saturday. Snow and freezing rain in New York is expected before noon on Saturday, then rain and snow between noon and 3 p.m., and then rain after that, the National Weather Service says.
