4 Banks With Growing Revenue

Stock quotes in this article:C, BAC, WFC, JPM, KEY, STI, COF, NYB

NEW YORK (TheStreet) - On the heels of TheStreet's look at fourth-quarter revenue for the largest four U.S. bank holding companies, we have followed the same approach of blowing past extraordinary items to identify four large holding companies that had significant improvements in operating revenue year-over-year.

Because earnings results at this point in the credit cycle are distorted by the release of loan loss reserves and extraordinary expenses tied to the mortgage mess, SNL Financial provides a pre-provision net revenue calculation, which is the total of net interest income and noninterest income, excluding credit-related expenses. Please see Part 1's discussion on Bank of America's (BAC) reserve release and numerous other extraordinary items in the fourth quarter for more on the importance of pre-provision net revenue.

The following four companies reported significant increases in pre-provision net revenue year-over-year.
