Gateway Bank, A Division Of Bank Of Hampton Roads, Announces J. Lawrence Mansfield, Jr. Has Been Promoted To President, Central Virginia Market

NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 18, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Hampton Roads Bankshares, Inc. (Nasdaq:HMPR) (the "Company"), the holding company for Bank of Hampton Roads/ Gateway Bank (the "Bank") and Shore Bank, today announced that J. Lawrence Mansfield, Jr. has been promoted to President, Central Virginia Market. Mansfield has over 23 years of banking experience and leadership in retail, commercial, private and real estate banking in Richmond, Virginia.

Mansfield holds a seat on the Board of Governors, Virginia Home for Boys and Girls and is a prior Chairman of the Board.

Mansfield earned a degree in economics from Hampden – Sydney College and is active in alumni matters. He previously served as President of the college's Richmond alumni association and was an officer with its national alumni association. He was a member of the 2008 Class of Leadership Metro Richmond and has been involved with a number of other business and civic organizations, including the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce, the United Way, the American Red Cross and Ducks Unlimited. He is an active member of the Commonwealth Club and the Country Club of Virginia.
