Bay State Milling Company To Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions With CarbonSMART(TM) As Massachusetts Sets Carbon Reduction Goal

BOSTON, Jan. 12, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- EnerNOC, Inc. (Nasdaq:ENOC), a leading provider of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) enterprise carbon management applications, today announced that Bay State Milling Company, a Massachusetts-based grain processor, will deploy EnerNOC's carbon management application, CarbonSMART™, to track its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and drive mitigation efforts.

Bay State Milling has proven itself to be a leader in forward-thinking energy management strategies, as its August 2010 CarbonSMART contract preceded a major recent announcement of carbon reduction goals by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by several months. On December 29, 2010, Commonwealth officials set a goal to reduce statewide GHG emissions by 25 percent below 1990 levels by 2020, in accordance with the Massachusetts Global Warming Solutions Act. The Commonwealth itself leverages EnerNOC's CarbonSMART technology, further underscoring its commitment to reaching this aggressive target (see: Massachusetts Taps EnerNOC for $10 Million State-Wide Energy Efficiency Project).

"As a Massachusetts-based business, Bay State Milling shares the Commonwealth's commitment to building better, more sustainable business practices," said Kevin Kavanaugh, Vice President of Operations at Bay State Milling. "Using CarbonSMART will help us manage our carbon footprint across our nationwide network in an accessible, auditable platform."

"We applaud Massachusetts' aggressive carbon reduction goals and Bay State Milling's initiative. In addition to the environmental impact, reducing carbon means driving efficiency, which has a positive and often significant bottom line impact for Massachusetts businesses," said Gregg Dixon, Senior Vice President of Marketing, EnerNOC. "Businesses that take a 'wait-and-see' approach to carbon management are bound to find themselves behind the curve. By taking proactive steps, Bay State Milling has the tools to uncover efficiencies that will improve its overall business," continued Dixon.

CarbonSMART is a SaaS-based carbon management and accounting application designed to help organizations like Bay State Milling measure, manage, and report greenhouse gas emissions, while providing robust project management tools for overseeing mitigation efforts. CarbonSMART centralizes data collection and provides a secure, auditable platform that enables facility managers to prioritize energy efficiency savings opportunities. As a current EnerNOC DemandSMART™ demand response customer, Bay State Milling may also draw upon a wealth of energy usage data, as well as its current demand response payments, to streamline its carbon accounting efforts and progress more quickly to mitigation strategies.
