J. Michael Harley Joins Minerals Technologies Inc. As Vice President, Corporate Development & Treasury

Minerals Technologies Inc. (NYSE: MTX) announced today that J. Michael “Mike” Harley joined the company on November 15 as Vice President, Corporate Development & Treasury, succeeding Douglas T. Dietrich, who is transitioning into his new role as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Harley will be an officer of Minerals Technologies and a member of the company’s Leadership Council.

“We are very pleased to have someone of Mike Harley’s experience and business acumen join Minerals Technologies,” said Joseph C. Muscari, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “Mike’s experience and expertise—centered on his business, strategic and legal background—has been heavily focused on mergers and acquisitions, having been involved in more than 30 transactions in the chemicals, ag-biotech, materials sciences, energy management and electronics sectors. He will be an important asset in our strategy to grow the company both organically and through acquisition.”

Mr. Harley joins MTI from GrowthPhases, LLC and GrowthPhases ® Alliance, a consulting and interim management alliance with members in Asia, Europe and the Americas. Mr. Harley founded GrowthPhases in 2000 and has served as Chief Executive Officer, Executive on Loan, and, from 2006 to 2008, Chairman of the Board of Advisors of the Alliance.

From 2007 to 2009, Mr. Harley served first as Growth Strategy Consultant, and then led the Growth & Risk Management group and had P&L responsibility for the Catalyst and Heat Exchange Businesses of MECS, Inc., formerly Envirochem Systems of Monsanto. MECS has offices in St. Louis, Brussels, and Shanghai. Before that assignment, he was a Corporate Development & Strategy consultant for the Non-Ferrous Metals Division of Sumitomo Corporation with offices in New York and Rosemont, Illinois. From 2001 to 2004, he served as General Manager, Industry Market Business; Chief Strategist and Chief Development Officer for Schneider Electric North America located in Palatine, Illinois; Nashville, Tennessee; and Paris, France.

Before establishing GrowthPhases, Mr. Harley served as Director of Mergers and Acquisitions in the Finance Department at Monsanto Company in Chicago and St. Louis from 1998 to 2000. Prior to that, he was Joint Head of Corporate Strategy for M.A. Hanna Company in Cleveland. He also held positions in Strategic Alliances and Technology Licensing, Legal and Mergers & Acquisitions for Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport, Tennessee, from 1991 to 1997.
